Format
9:16 and 16:9

The prompt

Type your own words into the fields: the [BLANKS] fill in as you go. Copy it and send it to Claude or ChatGPT with Cut Express connected.

Fill in

Empty fields stay as [brackets] in the copy.

Prompt

Make a [LENGTH IN SECONDS]-second 9:16 motion graphics video explaining how [YOUR PRODUCT] works. No footage: animated scenes only. Brand: [BRAND COLORS], thin borders, no shadows. Pick a bold sans and a mono font from assets.

Beats:
0 to 3 s: kinetic title "[HOOK LINE]" with the key word in the accent color.
3 to 7 s: the problem, shown simply: [THE PROBLEM].
7 to 11 s: how [YOUR PRODUCT] solves it, step by step: [THE STEPS].
11 s to the end: end card with the name and "[CALL TO ACTION]".

A whoosh on each transition and a soft click on each step (built-in sound effects). Show me the timeline before you render. Then a 16:9 version of the same timeline.

The blanks

[LENGTH IN SECONDS]
How long the finished video runs, as a number of seconds. Reels and Shorts hold best between 15 and 60.
[YOUR PRODUCT]
The product's name and what it does in one line, for example "Lumen, a budgeting app for freelancers".
[BRAND COLORS]
Your colors as hex codes with their roles, for example "background #0B0B0A, accent #FFD23F".
[HOOK LINE]
The first words on screen, the reason to keep watching, in under ten words.
[THE PROBLEM]
What the viewer struggles with, in one sentence.
[THE STEPS]
Two to four steps of how it works, in a few words each.
[CALL TO ACTION]
What the viewer should do at the end, in the words to show, for example "Try it free at lumen.app".

Tips

  • Give the beats with seconds; your AI keeps them, and changing one beat later is one sentence.
  • Ask for the recipes in assets (charts, counters, checklists, end cards) to be adapted, not copied as they are.

New to prompting video? How to write a good prompt for Cut Express covers the story, the hook, captions, sound, pace and how to iterate with versions.

The real render behind this prompt

This prompt was written from one we used to make a video for this site. Here is that video and the exact prompt that made it.

The exact prompt
Make a 15-second 9:16 motion graphics video explaining how Cut Express works. No footage: build it with animated scenes only (render's advanced edit, HTML + CSS + GSAP). Brand: dark background #0B0B0A, Cut yellow #FFD23F for highlights, Playhead violet #9D8CFF for the signal color, thin borders, no shadows, no emoji. Pick a bold sans and a mono font from assets.

Beats:
0–3 s: kinetic title "Edit videos by chatting." with "chatting" in yellow.
3–7 s: a chat bubble types "cut my 3 clips into a 30s reel. hook first, bold captions, warm look".
7–11 s: three clip thumbnails (simple vector rectangles) slide into a timeline with video, text, captions and sound tracks; a violet playhead sweeps across.
11–15 s: the timeline collapses into a vertical phone frame labelled "MP4 · 9:16"; end card with the cut.express wordmark and "7 days free".

Add a whoosh on each transition and a soft click when the bubble finishes typing (built-in sfx). Show me the timeline before you render.

Paste it in Claude. Get the MP4.

7 days free, then $19/mo. Cancel before day 7 and you pay nothing.

Narrated App Tour From a Screen Recording

A narrated vertical tour of your app from one screen recording.

Upload: A screen recording of your app or site, landscape is fine.

Make a [LENGTH IN SECONDS]-second 9:16 narrated tour of [YOUR PRODUCT] from the screen recording I uploaded. Inspect it first (contact sheets) and pick the moments where [KEY SCREENS] are on screen. Use fit blur so the landscape recording sits in the vertical frame, with slow punch-ins on the part the voice talks about.

Voice-over: make it with audio, [VOICE], this exact script:
"[SCRIPT]"

Captions from the voice track: bold preset, highlight [CAPTION COLOR], bottom third, 2 lines at most.
A whoosh on each section change (built-in sound effects). [MUSIC] under the voice, ducked.
End card for the last 2.5 seconds on [BRAND COLORS]: the logo or the name, and "[CALL TO ACTION]".
Show me the timeline before you render.

Your App on a Screen in Your Footage

Your app's screen recording placed on the laptop or phone in a real clip.

Upload: A clip with a laptop, monitor or phone in it, and a screen recording of your app.

I uploaded a clip of [THE SCREEN IN THE CLIP] and a screen recording of [YOUR PRODUCT]. Put the recording on that screen.

- Inspect the clip with screen: true at the second the scene starts, check the four corners against the grid and fix them if they're off.
- The screen recording plays on that screen, warped into its corners, with a soft glow (about 0.3) on what's around it.
- Scene 1 (3 s): the clip with the app on the screen. Scene 2 (4 s): the screen recording itself, full frame, with a punch-in on [THE FEATURE TO SHOW].
- Text at the top in scene 1: "[HOOK LINE]".
- A soft click sound when the punch-in lands.
Total length about [LENGTH IN SECONDS] seconds. Show me the corners and the timeline before you render.

An audio-only podcast clip with sound bars that move with the voice.

Upload: The episode's audio file and its cover art (a photo or image).

Make a [LENGTH IN SECONDS]-second clip from my podcast audio, [SHOW NAME]. Inspect the audio with a transcript and pick the line that works best on its own about [TOPIC].

- Picture: my cover art large in the top half on a [BACKGROUND COLOR] background, a slow zoom in over the whole clip.
- Under it, a motion graphic of 24 sound bars that follow the real voice (levels from the mix), in [CAPTION COLOR].
- Captions from the speech under the bars: karaoke preset, 4 words per line.
- The show name and episode number as a small label at the top.
