invideo Alternative: Edit Your Own Footage to a Final MP4

Cut Express · · 5 min read

If you film your own clips and want them edited into a finished video, Cut Express is an invideo alternative built around your footage. Claude reviews what you shot and writes the edit. Cut Express hands back the rendered MP4.

If you want AI to generate whole videos from stock and AI models, or your team edits together on one timeline, invideo is the better fit.

Why do people look for an invideo alternative?

invideo AI is an AI video generator with a multiplayer timeline editor. Its strength is generating whole videos with stock media and AI models. That’s useful for faceless explainers. It’s less of a fit when the footage is yours: a vlog, a talking head, a product you filmed yourself.

The other reason is where the AI hands off. invideo’s Editor MCP works in Claude and ChatGPT, among other clients. Per invideo’s FAQ, it builds rough cuts on invideo’s timeline. It removes retakes and pauses and can add b-roll and subtitles. You then finish on that timeline or export to another editor such as Premiere.

That’s a good workflow if you want to finish by hand. If you want the AI to finish, it’s an extra stage.

How is Cut Express different from invideo?

Cut Express doesn’t generate videos from nothing. It edits what you upload, all the way to the final file.

Claude reviews your footage through contact sheets (frames labelled with source time) and a timestamped transcript. For long recordings it can find “moments”, the stretches where something happens, each with its own frame sheet. Then it writes every decision, from the first cut to the caption style. Cut Express renders the MP4 on its servers and shows it in the chat.

Say you shot 20 minutes of a hiking trip on your phone:

Find the best moments from this hike and make a 40-second 9:16 reel. Speed ramp into the summit shot and freeze on the view. Add wind ambience and a pastel look. Minimal captions for the two lines I say.

Claude picks the moments and builds the reel. It adds the speed ramp and freeze frame. It generates the wind sound from your description (sound effects cost 0.1 credit per second). If you want a YouTube cut too, ask for “a 16:9 version” and it edits the same timeline. Every version is kept.

When is invideo the better choice?

invideo makes more sense when:

  • You don’t have footage. Generating a full video from a topic using stock and AI models is what invideo is built for. Cut Express needs your clips to work with.
  • A team edits together. invideo has a multiplayer timeline editor. Cut Express runs in your own chat.
  • You want to finish by hand. If you prefer AI to do a rough cut and then take over on a timeline, invideo’s MCP does exactly that.
  • You want yearly billing. invideo lists annual prices. Cut Express has no yearly plan.

If you run a faceless channel with stock clips, read faceless YouTube channel editing and free stock footage for YouTube. Cut Express can edit stock footage you download, along with an AI voice-over.

How do you switch?

  1. Connect Cut Express. Add it as a custom connector in Claude.ai or Claude Desktop and sign in. The setup guide has each app.
  2. Upload your footage. Pro takes files up to 2 GB each, Ultra up to 4 GB.
  3. For long recordings, ask Claude to find the moments. It ranks highlights and shows you frames.
  4. Describe the final video. Say how long, which format, and what to open on.
  5. Watch the MP4 and give notes. Each note renders a new version.

FAQ

Can Cut Express generate a video without my footage?
It isn’t a stock video generator. It needs media you upload. You can upload stock clips and photos you have the rights to, and Claude edits them with an AI voice-over from your script.

Does invideo’s MCP export a finished MP4?
Per invideo’s FAQ, the MCP builds rough cuts on invideo’s timeline, which you can export to pro editors. Check their FAQ for the latest.

How long can my videos be?
Up to 10 minutes on Pro and 30 minutes on Ultra.

What about clipping long videos automatically?
That’s OpusClip’s specialty. See OpusClip alternative.
