# Cut Express > Cut Express is a video editing MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT: you send your clips in the chat, Claude decides every cut, caption, color grade and sound, and Cut Express renders the MP4. The MCP server is at https://cut.express/mcp. The AI inspects the footage (contact sheets with timestamps, transcripts with word timings, ranked moments in long footage), writes a free-form timeline (scenes with in and out points, speed, transitions, text overlays, word-by-word captions, picture-in-picture overlays with shapes, borders, green-screen keying, blend modes and keyframed motion, split-screen layouts, flips, rotations, crops, blurred-background fill, reverse, boomerang, freeze frames, speed ramps, punch-in zooms, shapes and arrows, lower thirds, a progress bar, motion graphics, music, voice and sound effect tracks with ducking, denoise and voice EQ, color looks and adjustments) and Cut Express renders it to MP4 in 9:16 or 16:9. There are no templates. Every render is a version of a video, so changes render the next version from the same timeline. Every public page is also served as Markdown: add `.md` to its URL (https://cut.express/index.md for the home page), or request it with `Accept: text/markdown`. ## Pricing - 7-day free trial on either plan, then monthly or yearly (a year costs 10 months: 2 months free); cancel before day 7 and nothing is charged. No free plan. - Pro: $19 a month or $190 a year, 60 render minutes, 200 credits, 1080p. - Ultra: $49 a month or $490 a year, 180 render minutes, 500 credits, 2K and 1080p. - Render minutes: the length of the videos rendered each month (re-renders count, failed renders don't). - Credits pay for the audio AI only: a voice spends 1 per 1,000 characters (Advanced 2), a sound effect 0.1 per second, a transcript 0.1 per minute. Unused monthly credits roll over for three months; packs of 50 for $4 or 200 for $12 never expire. - Cut Express Desktop: $149 once, the Mac app (3 machines, unlimited renders, files stay on the Mac), 500 credits included (packs buy more, or the user's own voice key); edited by chatting inside the app, which runs the user's own Claude Code or Codex CLI, or from Claude Desktop and Claude Code. Also included in Ultra (7-day trial included) while the subscription is active: the licence is checked every day and the app spends Ultra's monthly credits; Pro doesn't include it. ## Where it works Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and any client that supports remote MCP servers. ## How to connect - [Connect Cut Express to Claude](https://cut.express/blog/connect-cut-express-to-claude): custom connector URL for Claude.ai and Desktop, one command for Claude Code - [Cut Express home](https://cut.express/): what Cut Express is, how editing inside the chat works, plans and prices ## Prompts - [How to write a good prompt for Cut Express](https://cut.express/prompts/guide): the story and the length, format, uploads, hook, captions, look, sound, pace, previewing the timeline and iterating with versions - [Prompt library](https://cut.express/prompts): 35 ready prompts with [BLANKS] to fill, by category - [Shorts From One Long Video](https://cut.express/prompts/shorts-from-a-long-video): Several vertical Shorts cut from one long video, each with captions.
